Butterfly Manticore

Finally incorporated manticores into the Between-universe.
*ahem* Pseudo-scientific blabber and crappy scientific names ensue. Bear with me.

Species info:
Butterfly Manticore - Manticora manticora
Size:
Female - up to 2,5 m tall when standing up, weights 400 - 640 kg
Male - up to 3 m tall when standing up, weights 540 - 700 kg
Living range:
Most common in moderate temperatured areas, prefer thick forests. May be found in subarctic temperatures as well.
Diet:
Omnivore, goes after prey if a suitable opportunity comes


Manticores are primates of the suborder [neither of the existing primates], traits of which are bright irises but dark scleras, elongated ears with great mobility, tails AND dry noses, plus magical capabilities.
The family of manticores is called manticoridae, and it also includes sphinxes. In the same group there is also the family of true elves.

Manticores are the largest primates on the planet, and they have adapted similar habits to bears - they are well capable of killing prey, and are relatively fast, but mostly eat berries and other plant matter. They walk on their knuckles so their claws wouldn't grow dull, and their tails have long hard spines (no poison). They are intelligent enough to learn human language, and may try to fool humans into 'deals', which mostly end in the manticore eating said human.

Manticores generally live in pairs, roaming a huge territory together, and raising up to two offspring at a time. They communicate over long distance with roars that sound like an out of tune trumpet.

The species possesses crude magical abilities, namely the ability to turn their nose-mucus into a powerful acid which they can spray at their enemies with a sneezing reaction. They themselves are immune to this acid, and it can't be stored since it will turn back into mucus in a few minutes (if it hasn't reacted to anything). They will use the acid mostly for selfdefense, since it would destroy valuable meat if used on prey.
